Heroes of Faith (1)

2 Samuel 23:15-17

Wistfully speaking to himself, King David said, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water fr

om the well of Bethlehem…” 2 Samuel 23:15. It was a hot and dry time of year, being harvest time, and King David’s mind probably drifted to thoughts of the well of his childhood, which was now surrounded by his enemies, the Philistines.

Overhearing the wish of their beloved leader, three of the mighty men of David broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the well, risking their lives to quench his thirst. This selfless act surely stemmed from a deep-rooted love for the one who had led them so faithfully in the past.

God’s Mission has always rested on the shoulders of heroes of faith, who have considered their lives nothing but yearn to glorify and honor their Lord. ‘For the love of Christ compels us…that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.’ 2 Cor 5:14,15.

We are blessed to have servants of God, who are standing firm in their places of service despite the civil war breaking out across Kenya. As with King David, whose heart was moved with compassion by the great love displayed by his soldiers, our Father notices the sacrifice of love given by his children.

Can you hear the whisper of God’s heart? His still small voice? Is your whole being rocked by the urgency of God’s will? Who will answer God’s call?

‘For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those who heart is loyal to Him.’ 2 Chron 16:9
