A gift from Him....a gift from you....

A gift from Him....a gift from you....

Christmas!!!  A time of giving gifts and receiving them!!! A time to stress about buying the perfect present for your sister, your father, your best friend…! But we all know that that’s not what Christmas is about.

‘Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends’ John 15:13 That was our Christmas gift, from God to us – the sweetest feet to ever touch this earth, our God, He came, took flesh, and gave His life for ours. He paid the ransom for our mistake. The Blameless Lamb, led to the slaughter, in exchange for our lives.

‘He was created of a mother whom He created. He was carried by hands that He formed. He cried in the manger in wordless infancy, He the Word, without whom all human eloquence is mute.’ (St Augustine)

One of the Christians who worked on translating the Bible said that Jesus’ ‘poverty was so great that He was born in another man's house, and buried in another man's tomb’ – all for you and I.

His tender heart was so moved by our broken state, that His love compelled Him to endure the Cross for our sakes. So that we could walk with Him once more and get closer to the One who has loved us more passionately than any other ever could.

But how can you respond to this indescribable, undeserved, limitless, sweet Love? Do you agree with St Augustine that ‘Christ is not valued at all unless He is valued above all’? The wise men traveled miles just to bring their offerings to their Savior. What gift can you give to the One who ‘has everything’?

‘A man is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose’ (a missionary to S. America). What is God asking from you…what will you give to Him?...is He worthy of more than you’ve been offering?

‘He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.’ 2 Cor 5:15
